Sloes
Sloes are usually ready to pick from late September to October. Once you can feel a softness underneath the skin, they are ready. However, I've filed my sloe recipes under 'January', because I like to use them in gin-making first: two recipes for the price of one. If you want to go straight to baking with sloes without making gin first, click on the links below to find some inspiration. If you want to replicate the gin flavour but don't plan to make sloe gin, simply soak the sloes in gin overnight before you begin.
